About Laura
Laura has more than 20 years' experience in nursing. She spent 16 years in Manchester hospitals, rising to senior nurse and ward sister. She has worked as a nurse practitioner for more than 8 years, with prescribing experience, including as an advanced nurse practitioner in the NHS.
In 2021 Laura founded Positive IV, an integrative care clinic in Rochdale, England. Her work there focuses on metabolic approaches to health, including care for people with cancer, alongside their oncology care.
Laura is one of the trial nurses in the ReDO cancer treatment study (ACTRN12623001164684). The study takes a metabolic approach to cancer, alongside standard care.
Laura's current training focuses on metabolic health, including mitochondrial flexibility.
Her role at Understanding Cancer
As clinical lead for patients, Laura oversees the patient content and safety. The knowledge base also draws on her clinical experience with patients.
Laura's role covers the patient service. The practitioner service is run by the Jim team.
Her approach
Laura's approach is integrative. It brings conventional medicine and evidence-based complementary care together, and looks at the whole person, mind and body.
Before any care starts, Laura reviews the patient's medical history, diagnosis, current medicines, supplements and any protocols already in place. She then works with the patient on a personalised plan.
That plan supports the treatment the patient's own doctors and oncology team have recommended. It never replaces it. Laura puts weight on prevention and self-care.
